My Story
My journey started long before I ever stepped foot in a gym.
I was born at just 26 weeks premature, entering the world fighting from day one. Growing up wasn't easy. I was constantly ill, suffering with recurring bouts of tonsillitis that seemed never-ending until I eventually had my tonsils removed.
Even after that, I struggled physically. I was always the skinny kid, finding it difficult to gain weight and build any kind of strength. By the age of 15, I was still skinny and lacking confidence, and like many teenagers, I started smoking because I thought it looked cool.
What started with cigarettes soon led to alcohol, spending weekends on the bender with friends. As the years passed, harder substances entered the picture too, including cannabis and cocaine. It became a lifestyle that I accepted as normal.
During this time, I found a relationship and eventually became a dad. But despite having responsibilities and people depending on me, I was still smoking heavily and drinking regularly. At my worst, I was smoking 30 to 40 cigarettes a day. I constantly felt ill, struggled to breathe properly, and knew deep down that something had to change.
Eventually, I'd had enough.
I quit smoking and discovered fitness.
At first, it was simple home workouts. Nothing fancy, just taking small steps in the right direction. Over time, those workouts progressed into regular gym sessions, and for the first time in my life, I started to feel healthier, stronger, and more in control.
Then life threw another challenge my way.
My relationship broke down, and my training stopped. My focus shifted entirely towards rebuilding my life and being the best father I could be for my two children. I realised that they were learning from me every day, and the example I set would shape the people they became.
After taking time to reset, I made the decision to invest in myself properly. I hired a personal trainer and a nutritionist.
That decision changed my life.
Between them, they helped me achieve the best shape I had ever been in, physically and mentally. More importantly, they showed me what was possible when you have the right guidance, support, and accountability.
That's when I knew exactly what I wanted to do.
I wanted to help people the same way they had helped me.
I began studying to become a qualified Personal Trainer while continuing to work full-time in construction. It wasn't easy, and if I'm honest, it took me longer than I expected. But I stayed committed, kept learning, and eventually earned my qualifications.
And that's how Sam Kenny Coaching was born.
Today, my mission is simple: to help as many people as possible become the best version of themselves.
I know what it's like to struggle with your health, your confidence, your habits, and your mindset. I've lived it. I've experienced the setbacks, the mistakes, and the challenges firsthand.
That's why I don't just coach people through workouts. I help them build sustainable habits, improve their nutrition, increase their confidence, and create lasting change.
I'm proud to run my coaching business from The Foundry Gym Northampton, where I provide one-to-one personal training, alongside online coaching and nutritional guidance for clients looking to transform their lives.
My story proves that where you start doesn't determine where you finish.
If a 26-week premature baby who grew up constantly ill, became addicted to unhealthy habits, and spent years struggling with his health can turn his life around, then so can you.
